Jean Leon Vinya La Scala

The restaurant founded by Jean Leon in Beverly Hills, which gives its name to this Gran Reserva, was always a meeting place for artists and free-spirited souls.

In the artwork that illustrates the 2018 vintage, Assumpció Mateu transports us to the heart of the Mediterranean through calligraphy, symbols, and ancestral traces. A composition of deep blues and earthy tones that evokes the union between cultures and the power of what is essential, capturing the natural and spiritual richness of our surroundings.

A Gran Reserva certified as a ‘Single Vineyard Wine’, the highest distinction granted by the Government of Catalonia, which verifies its origin from a unique plot planted in 1963. A singular vineyard whose microclimate and clay-limestone soils allow the cabernet sauvignon to express its full potential, resulting in an intense, complex, and elegantly structured wine, with rounded tannins, firm balance, and a long, persistent finish.

Jean Leon is a small winery located in the Penedès region. It was founded in 1963 by the Cantabrian Jean Leon (born Ceferino Carrión). He was a visionary who realised his two great dreams: to open the most luxurious restaurant in Hollywood, and to make an exclusive wine to be enjoyed by his important clientele.

The winery, owned by the Torres family since 1994 and managed by Mireia Torres since 2010, was the first to produce a single-variety Cabernet Sauvignon wine in Spain. It was also the first winery in the Penedès region to receive 'Vi de Finca' certification, the highest distinction awarded by the Government of Catalonia.

With 60 hectares of vineyards, all our wines have been certified organic since the 2012 vintage and are exported to over 40 countries.

DO Penedès

With 2,700 years of winemaking history to its name, making it the oldest winemaking region in Catalonia, DO Penedès is a broad, open appellation that stretches across a swathe of land between the sea and mountains, midway between Barcelona and Tarragona. The influence of the sun and the Mediterranean Sea makes Penedès an exceptional region for winegrowing. Its unique nature is responsible for the diversity of DO Penedès wines, with the differences in climate, landscape, and soil resulting in a thousand flavours and aromas.
