Gonfaus
AN ANCESTRAL ENOLOGICAL GEM
The most exciting research project we are currently engaged in is the recovery of ancestral grape varieties. This initiative was started by Miguel A. Torres in the early 1980s with the aim of discovering grapevines that had survived the phylloxera plague, which devastated European vineyards at the end of the 19th century. Today, the fifth generation is driving this project forward with great determination, aspiring to craft unique wines from forgotten varieties capable of evoking deep emotions.
These are small enological treasures that stand out not only for their uniqueness but also for their resilience to drought and high temperatures, making them particularly relevant in the context of the new climate reality. Out of the more than 50 varieties recovered to date, six have captured our attention, such as the gonfaus, which is used to produce this very limited-edition single-varietal wine.

This red grape variety, identified in 1998, has proven to thrive exceptionally well at the Purgatori estate, situated in the Les Garrigues region.
The key factors that make this area ideal for viticulture include its continental climate, characterized by significant seasonal and daily temperature variations, its prime location, and the unique composition of its soils.
DO Costers del Segre
The DO Costers del Segre is a mosaic made up of seven areas spread across the entire Segre River basin and Lleida Pyrenees. The aim of the appellation of origin (DO) is to bring together the winegrowing in the province of Lleida under this designation and give it its own identity. The main factors responsible for the uniqueness of the wines in this appellation and that make the region an ideal place for winegrowing, are its continental climate, with intense temperature fluctuations between seasons and day and night; its excellent location; and the composition of its soils.
