Miguel A. Torres has released his new book, A Life Among the Vineyards, published by Editorial Planeta. In this volume, one of the most influential figures in the world of wine revisits his memories and retraces a lifetime spent among vineyards and cellars, offering a unique perspective on the profound transformation of the wine industry in Spain and beyond. A Life Among the Vineyards is, at the same time, the story of a family business and the chronicle of a pivotal era of change for Spanish wine.
Writing in a warm and thoughtful tone, Miguel A. Torres shares his path from his earliest family memories in Vilafranca del Penedès, through his studies at the University of Barcelona and the University of Dijon, to his early involvement in the family winery and the modernization process that helped turn Familia Torres into an international point of reference for winemaking innovation, the revival of native grape varieties, and environmental sustainability.
As Miguel A. Torres explains: “I was fortunate to be born into a family that had been dedicated to wine for several generations. With these memoirs, I wanted to share not only the history of our winery, but also a deep love for the vineyard, a sense of responsibility for the planet’s future, and the conviction that wine, when enjoyed in moderation and in harmony with gastronomy, enriches life and human relationships. None of this journey would have been possible without my wife, Waltraud, whose support and complicity have been essential; this is why the book is dedicated to her.”
In the book's prologue, MW Pedro Ballesteros comments that "These memoirs are necessarily incomplete. Miguel has not told everything, nor has he told everything. His prodigious mind still holds numerous decisions to make and new ideas to conceive."
