Miguel A. Torres, president of Familia Torres, has been included in the list of 'The 100 Latinos Most Committed to Climate Action of 2025', which was announced today, October 24, International Day Against Climate Change. The list, promoted by the Miami-based environmental NGO Sachamama in collaboration with Agencia EFE, annually distinguishes leaders, activists, communicators and public figures who promote solutions to the global climate emergency.
The jury highlighted Miguel A. Torres' pioneering role in the sustainable transformation of the wine industry, both through the Torres & Earth environmental programme and the international collaboration he promotes from the International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA), an association he co-founded in 2019. His vision has been key to promoting emissions reductions, biodiversity restoration and adaptation to climate change, positioning the wine industry as an example of environmental responsibility and collective action.
"Receiving this recognition is an honour that I share with all the people and organizations that work every day to address the climate crisis. At Familia Torres, we will continue to promote initiatives that contribute to decarbonization and the protection of the planet for future generations," says Miguel A. Torres.
Of the 100 names, 58 are women, including Christiana Figueres, promotor of the Paris Agreement; Marina Silva, Brazilian Minister of the Environment; and Teresa Ribera, vice-president of the European Commission. Among the Spaniards are also the influencer Javier Peña, founder of Hope, the musician Macaco, the businessman Alejandro Agag and the environmental journalist Arturo Larena.
To compile this list, some thirty environmental and social organizations, such as The Nature Conservancy, WWF, Sea Legacy and Amazon Watch, propose nominations of people who, through their actions, generate a real impact on climate action. Subsequently, an international jury evaluates the proposals considering criteria of relevance, innovation and capacity to influence policies and communities. In this edition, the jury was made up of Dunia Elvir, president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists of the USA; Nina Gualinga, activist for indigenous people; Iván Duque, former president of Colombia; and Miguel Ángel Oliver, president of the EFE Agency and member of the list in the previous edition, among others.
