Familia Torres enhances the excellence of its projects across Spanish DOs with five Gold medals at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2026

23 June 2026

Familia Torres has further strengthened its position among the world’s most respected wine producers following its outstanding results at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2026, the flagship competition organised by the British magazine Decanter. In this year’s edition, five of the family’s wines have been awarded Gold medals with 95 points, while several others have achieved excellent scores, underlining the consistency and excellence of its projects across multiple Spanish denominations of origin.

Mas La Plana 2020 (DO Penedès)

Mas La Plana, a single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignon born in the late 1960s as a bold, counter-current venture by the third generation, has become an international benchmark for its distinctive expression, character and remarkable ageing capacity. The 2020 vintage, awarded 95 points and a Gold medal, was described by the DWWA 2026 judges as “a broad and bountiful wine with elegant cedar and sandalwood notes, bringing both complexity and depth”.

Grans Muralles 2020 (DO Conca de Barberà)

Grans Muralles, crafted beside the ancient walls of the Poblet monastery, brings together Cariñena, Garnacha and Monastrell with the pre-phylloxera varieties Garró and Querol, recovered through the long-running ancestral variety project initiated by Familia Torres in the 1980s. Grans Muralles 2020, which scored 95 points and secured a Gold medal, was characterised by the judges as “utterly delicious, complex and seamless”.

Blanco Granito 2023 (DO Rías Baixas)

Blanco Granito is a fifth-generation project inspired by the historic Roman granite presses found in the area. Building on this heritage and using grapes from the six-hectare walled vineyard surrounding Pazo Torre Penelas, this 100% Albariño ferments and ages in ovoid vessels made from Galician granite. Awarded 95 points and a Gold medal, Blanco Granito 2023 was praised by the jury for “its bounteous peach melba juiciness and tantalising lime zest acidity”.

Purgatori 2023 (DO Costers del Segre)

Purgatori is the first Familia Torres wine from Costers del Segre and takes its inspiration from the Benedictine monks who settled in this harsh landscape in the 18th century and worked the surrounding land – reputedly as a form of penance to atone for their sins. Since the 2022 vintage, the blend has included the ancestral variety Gonfaus, which complements Garnacha. Purgatori 2023, which received 95 points and a Gold medal, was noted by the tasters for “its welcoming notes of raspberry, plums and Provençal herbs that sink into the gossamer, melt-in-the-mouth palate”.

Clos Ancestral 2024 (DO Penedès)

Created at the Castell de la Bleda estate, this organic wine pays tribute to 2,700 years of winegrowing history in the region. Moneu, an ancestral grape native to Penedès, takes centre stage in the blend, alongside the local varieties Tempranillo and Garnacha Tinta. Clos Ancestral 2024, awarded 95 points and a Gold medal, was highlighted by the judges for “its long, elegant finish, which underscores its balance and clear gastronomic vocation”.

An exceptional showing for Familia Torres at the DWWA 2026

A number of other Familia Torres wines also delivered strong performances at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2026, further enhancing the international recognition of its portfolio. Pago del Cielo 2020 (DO Ribera del Duero), the flagship wine of the family’s Valladolid project, achieved 94 points, while Mas La Plana 2015 ‘Colección Privada’ (DO Penedès) and Forcada 2023 (DO Penedès), a key exponent of the ancestral variety recovery project, each received 92 points. Rounding off this impressive list of accolades are Salmos 2022 (DOQ Priorat), Jean Leon Vinya Le Havre 2022 (DO Penedès) and Malpastor Reserva 2020 (DOCa Rioja), all scoring 91 points, together with Celeste Reserva 2021 and Celeste Crianza 2022 (DO Ribera del Duero) and Milmanda 2023 (DO Conca de Barberà), each with 90 points. Taken together, these results highlight the strength and consistency of Familia Torres’ projects in Spain’s leading wine regions.

Once again, the Decanter World Wine Awards confirm their status as the world’s largest wine competition by number of entries. Around 17,000 wines were submitted this year, tasted blind by a panel of more than 250 international judges from 54 countries, including Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers and other leading experts.
