A Brief History of Pisco

Tasting Note

On the website of our Chilean colleagues, I came across a tasting note that is absolutely spot on and which I’m happy to share with you:

Pisco el Gobernador is brilliant and colorless with silver highlights, made from the varieties Muscat Rose and Muscat of Alexandria. It offers an exuberant floral aroma with notes of rose and jasmine framed by candied citrus peel. On the palate, it is flavorful, generously round, even creamy, with a long, lingering finish.”

Pisco Sour with a Twist

Given my penchant for idolatry, I wish to pay tribute to the eternal Pisco Sour or rather the Margutt Sour, a very special take on this timeless classic. Because, dear friends, classics are classics for a reason, right?

Ingredients:

  • 60 cc Pisco El Gobernador
  • 30 cc peach juice
  • 20 cc pomegranate juice concentrate (30%)
  • 10 cc fresh lemon juice
  • A slice of lime
  • Ice

Preparation:

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker.
  2. Add ice and shake! (Approx. 15 seconds.)
  3. Serve in a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with the lime.
