Manso de Velasco

Manso de Velasco was born in 1985 as Miguel Torres Chile's first premium wine, based on the "Vino de Pago" concept, introducing aging in new oak and in the bottle. Throughout its history, it has become known as one of the few high-quality Chilean Cabernet Sauvignons produced outside the Maipo Valley. For decades, Manso de Velasco has reflected Miguel Torres' passion for excellence and quality, becoming the winery's most recognized and awarded wine.

Origin

One of the first Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards (if not the very first) planted in the Curicó Valley is the subject of this story. Nestled in the Casablanca area, in the municipality of Molina, the San Francisco Norte estate was chosen by a visionary around 1902, who, using a unique massal genetic selection process in Chile and the world, planted this great vineyard. In 1984, Miguel Torres purchased this property with the intention of producing his first single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and, at the same time, safeguarding the heritage represented by these ancient vines. The vineyard was renamed "Viñedo del Gobernador Manso de Velasco" (Governor Manso de Velasco Vineyard), in honor of the founder of Curicó, José Manso de Velasco, who established the city in 1743.
