The competition, which recently celebrated its sixth edition in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, saw the participation of 816 wines from 20 different countries
Bodegas Torres' wine from the DO Penedès obtained the highest score in its category and received a Special Trophy. According to the organizers, this distinction honors the excellence of Sauvignon Blanc wines in each specific category.
The prize for best oaked Sauvignon for the 2014 vintage, which will be available as of July, thus joins the many distinctions that Fransola has won over the years. At the fifth edition of the same competition, the 2013 vintage won the gold medal, as well as receiving over 90 points in several leading Spanish wine guides.
This year marked the first time that the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon was held outside of France. The competition, which is international in scope, brings together industry professionals to promote and increase awareness of the world's great Sauvignon vineyards. The wines are classified according to the type of wine, vintage and origin. The jury is made up of around sixty tasters from ten different countries.
