2017 has been an excellent year for quality. Ripening has been gradual and the grapes have remained very healthy, so we have been able to harvest them at the optimum point of quality and ripeness. The results are aromatic wines with outstanding freshness and personality. The temperatures during ripening (August and September) have been moderate compared to the high temperatures and heatwaves we were having from April onwards, which brought forward the vegetation cycle of the plant. It has not been an easy year because, as well as the heat, we had frosts at the end of April, and in some cases hail, poor fertility and drought. We are clearly suffering the direct consequences of climate change and we will have to adapt as the years go on to protect our harvests. All this has made this year’s harvest the earliest I can remember, short in terms of days and low in production.
