Familia Torres Lounge, a new pop-up space serving great wines in Vall d'Aran

19 December 2017

From December 27th to January 1st, wine lovers enjoyed thirteen by-the-glass options from six appellations of origin

Vielha, the capital of the Vall d'Aran region in the Pyrenees, was the chosen site for the latest Familia Torres wine experience: a singular pop-up space in which to savor the winery’s most exclusive wines by the glass. From December 27th to January 1st, wine lovers had the unique opportunity to discover a selection of extraordinary wines that took them on a journey through different wine regions.

Located on Passeig de la Llibertat in the center of Vielha, the pop up became an original, one-of-a-kind après-ski leisure option with an elegant and welcoming ambiance. The wine list featured thirteen wines from six appellations of origin, which were all available by the glass and served with select tapas.  For six days, the pop up welcomed guests every afternoon, from 5 pm to 9 pm, inviting Vall d'Aran residents and visitors alike to explore some of the most iconic wines of this century-old family winery.

Representing the Penedès appellation were Familia Torres's flagship wine, the legendary Mas La Plana, as well as the whites Fransola and Waltraud. Conca de Barberà participated with its three ambassadors: the Chardonnays Milmanda and Sons de Prades, and the red Grans Muralles, voted Best Wine at the Premios Alimentos de España 2017 awards. Priorat was represented by Perpetual and Salmos, and Costers del Segre by Purgatori, one of the winery's most recent new releases.  The pop-up selection also featured Familia Torres-owned wineries, such as Jean Leon Vinya Gigi, the sparkling wine Esplendor by Vardon Kennett, Ribera del Duero's Celeste Crianza and Rueda's Camino de Magarín.

New Year's Eve with Esplendor by Vardon Kennett

Cuvée Esplendor 2013 by Vardon Kennett, the first Familia Torres sparkling wine produced in Catalonia, made for a magical New Year's Eve celebration in Vielha. The toast to ring in the New Year in Vielha's main square was all about bubbles, bringing together more than 600 people who braved the cold to celebrate in a festive ambiance with music until past one in the morning.

In addition, several establishments in Vall d'Aran organized different wine-related activities, such as tastings, and wine and food pairings, in collaboration with Familia Torres throughout the month of December.
