5 Reds For Any Season

When a wine reveals its identity, when it expresses character and complexity, when it tells a story and was made with care and passion, then it transcends time and the age-old aphorism that whites are summer wines and reds, a wintry comfort.
Below we'd like to tell you about five truly seasonless reds:
1. CELESTE CRIANZA (D.O. Ribera del Duero)
Starlit harvest nights inspire these red grapes grown at 900 meters, halfway between earth and sky, which give body and soul to a red wine that epitomizes the finest expression of the region's highland vineyards.
Celeste Crianza is a dark cherry red wine with deep garnet highlights that offers a composition of wild blackberries and blueberries, delicate notes of toast and smoke. Serious, warm, with very fine, juicy, velvety tannins.

2. PURGATORI(D.O. Costers del Segre)
Purgatory—between heaven and hell—is also the legacy handed down by the monks of the Montserrat abbey. In 1780, they came to the Purgatori estate to carry out their penance. Here, amid an extreme climate, they worked the land and discovered a different kind of terroir where the vines produced exceptional fruit for winemaking.
Purgatori is a fleshy and intense wine. Dark cherry red in color, this Garnacha and Cariñena blend reveals deep notes of ripe fruit (blackberries, blueberries) over subtle smoky and creamy undertones. Elegant, with delicate, silky tannins that draw on the subtle acidity to produce a long, persistent midpalate that seems to last forever.

3. BELLATERRA(D.O. Penedès)
A high-flying Merlot from a region of countless varieties. This mosaic of microclimates makes it possible to not only grow and produce fresh whites and crisp sparkling wines—outstanding representatives of the region—but also excellent reds, gems of the Penedès's varietal diversity that invite us to explore its higher elevations. “Only by leaving can one return and truly grasp the beauty of this age-old land, this incomparable garden of green vineyards with its ochre country houses and lone cypress trees. I've never known another land like this. The Penedès, una bella terra, a beautiful land.” – Miguel Torres Maczassek.
Here we find Bellaterra, a wine that is a far cry from its warm-climate kin. Here we find a beautiful opaque dark cherry red color, intense fruit aroma (black cherry, blueberry jam) with an exquisitely refreshing minty note that balances the elegant midpalate, culminating in a slightly bitter finish carried by subtle notes of cocoa that will leave us wanting more.

4. SALMOS(D.O.C. Priorat)
Salmos is a tribute to the Carthusian monks who planted the first grapevines in the Priorat. The wine holds the mysterious legacy of ancient times and wise men. It is rooted in a climate verging on the extreme, a bold monastic winegrowing tradition, and steep terraced vineyards surrounded by wild Mediterranean woodland of pine and rosemary. The llicorella slate soils, older than humanity itself, serve a heat-regulating function, joined by a savoir faire that has needed the passage of time to yield the very best of itself.
Salmos captures the essence of Priorat reds and has seduced us without fail since the very first vintage. Passionate dark ruby red in color, Salmos is round and mature, but also floral, with a spectrum of fruit ranging from black cherry to plums and dried fruit. French oak provides the framework for an elegant midpalate, with perceptible, but delicate tannins and a toasty finish reminiscent of cocoa that seduces us yet again.

5. ALTOS IBÉRICOS RESERVA (D.O.C.RIOJA)
Altos Ibéricos Reserva is a new take on the age-old tradition of Rioja reds that, while respecting its origins, stands as an example of modern winemaking in the region. Altos Ibéricos comes from the heart of the Rioja Alavesa region and is named after Alto Otero, a beautiful spot near the town of Labastida that is home to our winery.
Intensely fruit-forward Tempranillo with layers of black cherry that reveal black pepper and dried fig notes as the wine unfolds in a display of balance, carried by a firm, velvety, fleshy palate. A mature and elegant wine to remember.
