Jean Leon Vinya Le Havre
Jean Leon set sail for the USA as a stowaway from the French port of Le Havre, where he was soon discovered by a sailor who decided to help him stay hidden. This wine pays homage to the silent complicity of a stranger who would change Jean Leon's life forever.
Made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, this limited-production wine is produced from a unique 12-hectare terroir bearing the same name.
Jean Leon is a small winery located in the Penedès region. It was founded in 1963 by the Cantabrian Jean Leon (born Ceferino Carrión). He was a visionary who realised his two great dreams: to open the most luxurious restaurant in Hollywood, and to make an exclusive wine to be enjoyed by his important clientele.
The winery, owned by the Torres family since 1994 and managed by Mireia Torres since 2010, was the first to produce a single-variety Cabernet Sauvignon wine in Spain. It was also the first winery in the Penedès region to receive 'Vi de Finca' certification, the highest distinction awarded by the Government of Catalonia.
With 60 hectares of vineyards, all our wines have been certified organic since the 2012 vintage and are exported to over 40 countries.
DO Penedès
With 2,700 years of winemaking history behind it, making it the oldest wine region in Catalonia, the DO Penedès is broad and open, stretching along a strip of land between the sea and the mountains, halfway between Barcelona and Tarragona. The influence of the sun and the Mediterranean Sea make Penedès a privileged territory for vine cultivation. From its uniqueness arises the diversity of DO Penedès wines. A thousand flavors and aromas are the result of climatic, landscape, and soil differences.
