Bodegas Torres unveils the first electric-solar train to be used for wine tours in Europe. The train makes it possible to cut CO2 emissions by 50% compared to the emissions generated by the diesel train previously used at the company's Wine Center in Pacs del Penedès

This groundbreaking, innovative initiative forms part of the environmental program Torres & Earth. Introduced by the company in 2007 to help mitigate the effects of climate change, the program has seen an investment of over 10 million euros.

The new sightseeing train at Bodegas Torres' Wine Center is 18 meters long and can seat 72 passengers. It features 15 high-efficiency solar panels that generate between 6 and 14 Kw/h per day depending on the time of year. The panels provide the train with 8% to 10% of the total energy it needs to run.  The rest of the charge is obtained by plugging into the electric grid. Manufactured by the Dutch company SOIOS, the train consists of an engine and three cars and has enough range per charge to complete the full tour of the Wine Center in Pacs del Penedès six times. The center receives over 130,000 visitors per year, primarily from Spain, Russia, France, Germany, USA, United Kingdom, Sweden and Finland.
