Reserva Real 2011, a Torres family icon wine, reasserts its position as the best wine made from Bordeaux varieties at the Decanter World Wine Awards. This prestigious international wine competition is organized by Decanter Magazine, which will publish the results in its August issue.  For the second year in a row, the wine from the DO Penedès has obtained the highest distinction ‘Platinum Best in Show’ in the ‘Red Bordeaux Varietals over £15’ category. The vintage received an excellent rating of 96 out of 100 points, topping other Bordeaux blends from around the world. 

Three other Torres family wines also distinguished themselves from the over 16,000 wines tasted for the Decanter World Wine Awards 2016. Días de Verano 2015, a Muscat from the Itata Valley in Chile, was named ‘Platinum Best in Show’ in the “Dry Aromatic under £15” category. In addition, Grans Muralles 2011 (DO Conca de Barberà) and Marimar Estate Mas Cavalls 2013, a Pinot Noir produced by Marimar Torres in California's Sonoma Coast appellation, both won gold medals. All three wines were awarded 95 points.

Reserva Real 2011, a limited-production wine from the DO Penedès, is among the most exclusive wines in Spain. Fewer than 2000 bottles were produced of the 2011 vintage. The wine is made from the finest Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grown in the Torres family's 4-hectare Les Arnes vineyard, with its singular Silurian slate soil that is unique to the Penedès and is located in Mediona (Alt Penedès) at 400 meters above sea level. The wine is aged in French oak for 18 months.

The Decanter World Wine Awards 2016 only awarded ‘Platinum Best in Show’ medals to 31 contestants, 4 of which are Spanish and 6 Chilean. The Decanter World Wine Awards is the biggest wine competition in the world, which this year in its 13th edition has registered again a record participation. The panel of judges, which featured 244 professionals (Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers and other experts), blind tasted thousands of wines from around the world.
