Familia Torres named one of the world's best vineyards to visit

24 September 2021

Familia Torres consolidates its reputation as one of the world's finest vineyards by coming in at number 26 on the World's Best Vineyards 2021 list, organized and compiled by the William Reed publishing group to recognize top wine tourism destinations. Featured in all three editions of the list, the Penedès winery now climbs 16 spots, compared to last year, to become the third Spanish – and only Catalan – winery to make the ranking, which announced its results last week.

The list of the World's Best Vineyards is compiled by a panel of judges representing 600 global wine and travel professionals who make a selection from 1500 entries presented by wineries from around the world. The panellists not only take the winery's track record into account, or the quality of its wines, but also the experiences it offers, evaluating aspects such as architecture, tours, landscape, and service provided by the staff.

In terms of Familia Torres, the panellists highlighted its commitment to sustainability and events such as Noche de Estrellas (Starlit Night), which brings together astronomy, music, and wine. They also mentioned the Legacy Wine Experience, an exclusive experience that invites visitors to taste some of the winery's finest wines directly from the barrel, as explained on the website. For the panel, the El Celleret restaurant represented another highlight, mentioning its modern Mediterranean cuisine and extraordinary setting, nestled amid the vineyards of Mas La Plana with views of Montserrat mountain. As far as wines, the panel mentioned the legendary Mas La Plana, but also reserved praise for Familia Torres's new experimental wines which the winery is making from recovered ancestral varieties like Garró, Querol, and Forcada.

This is the third edition of the World's Best Vineyards list, which takes inspiration from prestigious rankings like the World's 50 Best Restaurants and World's 50 Best Bars, also compiled by William Reed. According to the organizers, the goal of the best vineyards' list is to shine a spotlight on wine tourism, showcasing the diversity of wine tourism destinations and encouraging people to discover what makes wine and its landscapes and wineries unique.
