Familia Torres is donating food to Comer Contigo, a solidarity initiative launched by the La Vanguardia newspaper's food channel Comer and Barcelona-based chefs, which provides meals to those most in need during the on-going health crisis. Through the Familia Torres Foundation, the family-owned Penedès winery has donated more than 2,000 liters of olive oil and approximately 1,000 kilos of essential food products. These were provided by Torres Import, the company's distributor of gourmet foods.

This contribution joins other Familia Torres efforts to assist in the fight against Covid-19, such as providing 30,000 surgical masks to hospitals and nursing homes, as well as producing 3D-printed face shields for frontline medical workers. By participating in this culinary project, the winery wants to thank the restaurant industry for displaying solidarity at a time when it is facing serious challenges of its own due to the mandatory closure of dining establishments. The company is also committed to helping people at risk of social exclusion, one of the goals of the Familia Torres Foundation, a regular food bank collaborator.

Comer Contigo's team of chefs, with Romain Fornell (of Caelis and Casa Leopoldo) at the helm, prepares over 1,000 meals per day and distributes them to several centers in Barcelona, including Fundació Arrels, Caritas, Madre Teresa de Calcuta, Hospital Clínic, and Hospital del Mar. It also works in coordination with similar projects, such as Health Warriors, Food for Good, and World Central Kitchen, to provide meals to people who cannot afford to buy food during lockdown.

In collaboration with the Red Cross of Vilafranca del Penedès, the Familia Torres Foundation is also collecting donations to buy school supplies for families in need with school-age children. Established in 1986, the foundation focuses its efforts on helping children, improving the health and well-being of at-risk groups, and fomenting the empowerment of women.
