Celeste makes its debut in the rosé category with a wine hailing from the DO Cigales, drawing inspiration from the region’s traditional Claretes. Pago del Cielo, owned by Familia Torres, enriches its Celeste range, which now features wines of the three main types – red, rosé and white – sourced from the most esteemed Castilian designations of origin for each category.
Celeste Rosé 2023 captures the winemaking tradition of Cigales, the area north of Valladolid renowned for its traditional rosés or Claretes, which are blends of red and white varieties resulting in wines of a vibrant colour and a fruity palate. Winemaker Juan Ramón García has reinterpreted this tradition when crafting this new addition to the Celeste range. To this end, he has selected Tempranillo plots of at least 40 years old that also feature white varieties and conducted a longer skin maceration of the skins than typically used in the production of pale rosés, bestowing the wine with a deeper colour and fuller body.
Following fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine undergoes a month-long ageing process in old underground concrete vats, a nod to the region's winemaking traditions. The result is a wine with a delicate salmon hue, complex and intensely aromatic, with dominant notes of white flowers, stone fruits, and hints of anise. It glides silkily on the palate, perfect as an aperitif or paired with pasta dishes, salads, and fish with mild tomato sauces.
Celeste was born in 2005 with its inaugural Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) wine produced in the winery located in Fompedraza under the DO Ribera del Duero. In 2020, to the three Ribera del Duero reds (Roble, Crianza and Reserva), a Verdejo from Rueda was added, crafted in the winery in Villafranca del Duero and named Celeste Verdejo. Now completing the range is the new Celeste Rosé from Cigales, the most acclaimed designation of origin for traditional rosés in Castilla y León. These five wines not only share the brand but also the iconic label that captures the constellations during harvest nights.
