Juan Torres Master Distillers, Familia Torres’ spirits division, continues to achieve international acclaim, adding further medals to its distinguished collection. The recent announcements from the International Spirits Challenge (ISC) and the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC), have brought significant recognition: ISC awarded gold medals to four Penedès brandies – Jaime I, Torres 20, Torres 15, and Torres 10 – while IWSC bestowed its highest honour upon Torres 20.

Jaime I, the iconic brandy presented in a bottle inspired by Antoni Gaudí’s architecture, impressed the judges with its notes of toasted oak, vanilla, and fruit, described as “intense and pleasant”. Torres 20, a double award-winner, was praised for its “intriguing and floral” character, with aromas of lemon oil and orange, and a pleasing finish. Torres 15, celebrated for its versatility in mixology, was noted for its smoky and leathery bouquet, complemented by spicy, molasses, and cinnamon notes on the palate. Torres 10 was highlighted for its harmonious balance, offering aromas of curry and nutmeg alongside fruity flavours.

El Gobernador, the Chilean pisco from the Limarí Valley, also achieved double recognition. ISC awarded it a gold medal, commending its “highly aromatic and elegant palate” and “delightful mouthfeel”. IWSC granted it 98 points and the coveted Spirit Gold Outstanding medal, a distinction reserved for only 3% of entries. The judges described this exuberant pisco as remarkable “not only for its finesse and balance, but also for its clarity of expression and faithful representation of the grape’s character”.

The International Spirits Challenge, organised by the UK’s Agile Media group, is regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious spirits competitions.
