Bodegas Torres has received the prize for the 'Most Innovative Tourist Experience' at the Wine Tourism Awards, which are organised by the renowned magazine, Drinks International.
In its fifth edition, the judges decided to award this prize to the family-owned winery in the Penedès, for its ability to create truly innovative and unusual experiences. The jury highlighted four of the experiences: the Wine Photography Tour, the Vineyard Race, the 'Create your Own Brandy' workshop and the Blind Tapas experience. The judges also noted that the “Star Observation Night”, which had already been awarded in the past edition, continues to impress as an example of an innovative experience, as published in the British magazine in its February issue.
The Wine Tourism Awards, which set the benchmark in the sector, promote and acknowledge excellence and innovation in wine tourism. This is the third time that Torres has received an award for the most innovative tourist experience and, furthermore, it is the only Spanish winery recognised in 2016: the other five winners are from Australia, South Africa and Portugal.
The Torres Visitor Centre, located in Pacs del Penedès near Barcelona, organizes more than twenty experiences centred around the world of wine, for all kinds of visitors. Singular experiences taking place on specific dates are added to the activities already being offered on a regular basis throughout the year.
This is the case with two of the experiences mentioned by the Wine Tourism Awards judges. Firstly, there is the Wine Photography Tour, which is an autumnal activity where photography lovers are taught different techniques by a professional photographer; this is possible thanks to the variety of interior and exterior spaces the winery has to offer. Secondly, there is the Vineyard Race, a popular running event among vineyards which is usually held in spring.
In addition, the 'Blind Tapas' experience gives the blindfolded participants the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of flavours, senses and sensations through a surprising food pairing activity, while in the 'Create your Own Brandy' workshop, visitors discover the secrets of this spirit and prepare their own blend, which they take home in a bottle as a souvenir.
The Torres Visitor Centre has a team of about thirty people and every year it receives nearly 100.000 visitors from all over the world.
