CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS INSPIRED BY FAMILIA TORRES WINES (I)

As we know, wine is often the object or subject of inspiration in countless creative fields. The world of decoration is no exception. So we teamed up with @paz_qb to bring you some original ideas for decorating your holiday tables based on different Familia Torres wines.

@paz_qb invites us to style our table as inspired by the wine:

PURGATORI (DO COSTERS DEL SEGRE)

Purgatori.

“I took inspiration from the wine label, which shows celestial beings carrying a barrel. I decided against a tablecloth, setting the dinnerware directly on the wooden table top so its timeworn patina is visible, which reminded me of the barrels used for wine fermentation”.

For her styling, Paz chose simple white ceramic plates with a discreet gilded edge to “evoke a festive, Christmas feeling”. The cutlery, in aged silver with ivory-coloured handles, plays off the plates beautifully. The clear glassware reflects the candlelight without overpowering the plant-based decoration. The bread plates, clear glass with a painted red-leaf pattern, form an organic whole with the rest of the set. The exquisitely embroidered vintage linen napkins – a family heirloom – add a distinctive and welcoming touch..

“For the centrepiece, I decided to only use plant-based decoration; differently sized eucalyptus branches and pomegranates.”

Giving tangible expression to the tasting note and its references to ripe red fruit, the pomegranates evoke the same colour and are occasionally split open to reveal the bright seeds within.

“To heighten the festive atmosphere, I added vintage silver candelabra with red candles. Combining vertical and horizontal elements makes for a dynamic table decoration, and red candles add a spectacular, warm touch."

VARDON KENNETT

As expressed by its fine, beautiful bubbles, Vardon Kennett is a subtle, elegant sparkling wine. “When I read the description of this sparkling wine, I knew the table had to stay true to the same idea”.

“For this table, I wanted to move away from the colours we traditionally imagine as Christmas-like. Instead I was thinking about winter and snow, a white Christmas combined with gold, an elegant table with a distinctly feminine component”.

With the table before her like a blank canvas, @paz_qb imagined painting in shades of white, as reflected in the tablecloth and napkins. The vintage plates are Limoges porcelain, white with minute gold motifs along the edge, giving them extraordinary luminosity. “I chose gold-coloured cutlery, bread plates in clear glass with decorative gold motifs, and cut crystal glasses that would better reflect the candlelight.”

The white and gold colour palette extends to the centrepiece as well. The white candles of the vintage candelabra match the white roses in small vases, melding into an embrace of green leafy branches lightly sprayed in gold to “sparkle ever so slightly and tie into the narrative of the table. The result is a festive, elegant table – clean, sparkly, harmonious, with a feminine touch”.

CLOS ANCESTRAL (DO PENEDÈS)

Clos Ancestral is a young, innovative organic wine featuring Moneu, a recovered ancestral variety.

“I wanted the table to reflect all of this, as well as some of the aromas in the tasting note, so I decided on a white tablecloth that really lets the ceramic plates – in characteristic vineyard shades of green and brown – stand out. I kept the cutlery in simple steel, and the raffia bread baskets are a nod to the grape-picking baskets used in the past.”

The amber-coloured glasses build on the concept @paz_qb developed for this table. The original, subtle take on the centrepiece consists of lovely curved branches, bare and reddish in colour. “For the floral decoration, I arranged cedar branches and rose hip in small bud vases. The latter adds a very Christmassy touch and is a nice reference to the wild rose aroma in the tasting note, because rose hip is the fruit of the rose, what remains after it has lost its petals. During this time of year, the rose bushes are covered with these little red berries.”

Handcrafted ceramic grape leaves with an arrangement of raspberries and blueberries underscore the references to the aromas of the wine. “The candles in different colours give the styling a youthful, festive feel.”

We've seen how the material interpretation of wine can be a source of inspiration, transforming a Christmas table into a concept, an idea that welcomes and brings us together and makes us feel at home.
