Marimar Estate Albariño
AN ALBARIÑO WITH A NOTE OF SUNSHINE FROM CALIFORNIA!
Albariño is known for producing extraordinary wines in the cold climate of Galicia, in the northwest of Spain. We first planted it in our Sonoma Coast vineyard, whose climate turned out to be too cold to ripen even a cool-climate variety like this one. After four years, we gave up and grafted the shoots from those vines onto our Don Miguel Vineyard in the Russian River Valley, which is somewhat less cold. And we are excited to see how well it is thriving!
Marimar Torres, Founder and Owner of Marimar Estate, inaugurated the winery in 1992, built in the purest style of a Catalan farmhouse, after a long period searching for the most authentic and representative terroir of the area.
Located in the western hills of the prestigious Russian River / Green Valley appellation, in Sonoma County, the property benefits from an especially cold and foggy climate, considered the most unique within California’s Russian River Valley. Specializing in the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varieties, as well as some Spanish varieties such as Godello, Albariño, and Tempranillo, grown in the Don Miguel and Doña Margarita vineyards, named in honor of Marimar’s parents, in recognition of their legacy and family tradition.
Since 2023, her daughter Cristina has been the General Manager of the winery, bringing with her an impressive academic background from Princeton and Wharton, and a professional career that has taken her around half the world.
Russian River Valley. California
Located in the heart of Sonoma County, California, the Russian River Valley DO is internationally recognized for the quality and elegance of its wines. This region, marked by the influence of coastal fog coming from the Pacific Ocean, enjoys a cool and moderate climate that favors a slow and balanced ripening of the grapes. The Russian River Valley stretches across a landscape of gentle hills and valleys, where the diversity of soils and microclimates gives rise to wines of great complexity and expression.
The uniqueness of this appellation is especially reflected in its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, emblematic varieties that find here an ideal environment to develop their full aromatic and gustatory potential. The combination of winemaking tradition, innovation, and respect for the environment has made Russian River Valley one of the most prestigious regions in California and a global benchmark for wine lovers.
