Food and Wine Pairings, Exclusive Tours, and Live Music: A Few Wine Tourism Ideas from Familia Torres

07 March 2022

Familia Torres is stepping up its wine experiences over Easter to give visitors the chance to enjoy wine, food, and nature in an idyllic setting. Located on its flagship Mas La Plana estate, in the heart of Penedès, the winery opens its doors to all visitors to share its history and commitment to regenerative viticulture and sustainability, as well as reveal the careful winemaking process behind its legendary Mas La Plana wine.

Rounding out the winery tour are expert-guided wine tastings or different options to delve into the art of wine and food pairing, a chance to savour local products and traditional recipes. The wines are either matched with assorted cheeses or a selection of tapas – two experiences that seek the most exquisite similarity or contrast pairings in an interplay of flavours, aromas, and textures.

Familia Torres is also offering exclusive experiences aimed at wine lovers who prefer private, personalized tours. Among them are the Signature Wine Experiences, which include the possibility of a barrel tasting with a sommelier or a tasting of the five wines that comprise the Antología Miguel Torres, the winery's most exclusive collection: Milmanda, Mas La Plana, Reserva Real, Grans Muralles, and Mas de la Rosa.

And to complete the experience, visitors can delight in a meal at the winery's select restaurant El Celleret, set amid vineyards and named the best winery restaurant at the Premis Vinari 2021. An incomparable place to enjoy Mediterranean cuisine prepared with wine in mind, made from seasonal, locally sourced products. The restaurant even has its own organic vegetable garden and keeps Penedès hens and roosters. Helming the kitchen is chef Sergi Millet, who crafts a masterful and varied menu with dishes that exalt the wine. Here diners can delight in a wide range of wines, many of them by the glass, which Familia Torres makes in Penedès and other Catalan and Spanish wine regions, as well as in Chile and California.

During the Easter week, and coinciding with the onset of warmer weather, the restaurant is resuming its outdoor concerts and opening up its terrace and garden seating. Guests can soak in the natural surroundings and the magnificent views of Montserrat mountain, accompanied by the sound of music. And so, every weekend from 16th April until October, live music will once again brighten the lunches and dinners at El Celleret.

Familia Torres is among the best wineries in the world to visit, according to the World's Best Vineyards ranking, put together by the William Reed publishing group to honour the finest wine tourism destinations. In the 2021 ranking, Familia Torres placed 26th, making it the third Spanish – and only Catalan – winery on the list. Familia Torres is Biosphere certified since 2017, a certification which renews every year and attests to the winery's ongoing improvements in all areas of sustainable management. As of last year, the winery also holds the Safe Travels certification issued by the World Travel & Tourism Council.
