Familia Torres still the most admired wine brand in Europe according to Drinks International

06 April 2020

According to Drinks International, Familia Torres once again tops the European ranking of the wine brands that industry professionals most admire. The prestigious British magazine recently revealed its anticipated list of The World's Most Admired Wine Brands. Now in its tenth edition, the list was produced in collaboration with market research and consultancy firm Wine Intelligence, based on a survey of more than 200 professionals from 48 countries.

The family-owned Penedès winery, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, continues to lead the European ranking for the tenth year in a row, but dropped to third place in the global ranking, behind Argentina's Catena Zapata and Australia's Penfolds. Drinks International editor Martin Green said the ranking “shines a light on the most iconic, exciting and innovative producers on every continent.”

According to the magazine, Familia Torres “continues to win fans for its commitment to quality across an array of labels and regions.” Another aspect that scored highly with judges is the producer's “work to ensure that winemaking has a minimal impact on the environment.”

The list includes a total of 50 wineries, of which 22 are European, making Europe the most highly represented continent. France and Italy lead the way with seven brands each, followed by Spain with six. The results are based on a survey completed by wine professionals, who vote for the five wine brands they most admire, considering criteria such as quality, expression of origin or grape variety, and presentation.
