Wine & Sustainability

Many’s the time during our existence that we set ourselves objectives so ambitious and of such magnitude that they seem impossible to achieve. But sooner or later, there is a turning point, a given time, something that may seem anecdotal but that triggers our determination.

In 2007 Miguel A. Torres saw Al Gore's documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth", which described the ravages of climate change in a crystal clear and scientific fashion.

While the focus on ecology has always been part of Torres’ philosophy, somehow Al Gore’s presentation accelerated the decision making process. Straightaway, it was decided to invest 10 million euros in the Torres & Earth program. Among its main objectives, priorities are reducing CO2 emissions by 30% per bottle by 2020 - (based on 2008 levels) -. Reducing energy consumption, projects to guarantee our environment’s biodiversity and responsible water use are other Torres & Earth program objectives.

In this sense, our biomass boiler has allowed us to reduce natural gas consumption by 95% and power consumption by 10%, equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 346 family homes.

We are firmly committed to innovation, in search of a sustainable production model. In future publications we will be sharing with you all the measures we take to achieve this goal.

We will continue to defend the ethical management of natural resources, of the land, our land. We owe it to all those who have worked it before us and especially to future generations. Because we are well aware that the more we care for the earth, the better our wine.
