Wine & Interior Design

Corkscrews, wine fridges, bottle racks, furniture-style cellars, glass holders... The number of accessories and wine-related items that find their way into our homes is growing by the day.

At the same time, the wine world is also offering an increasing array of possibilities when it comes to original yet practical interior design.

From something simple like using bottles as vases or placing a candle inside for a bit of low-key lighting, the ideas for repurposing containers originally meant to store or transport wine are truly surprising:

The wooden cases usually used to safely store Magnum or Jeroboam sized bottles can be taken apart and individually reassembled to make original coffee tables. Wheels can be added to make the table easier to move around.

Oak barrels are also a popular item when it comes to interior décor. Capable of being disassembled in countless ways, they are astonishingly versatile as an interior design element. Some people, particularly in the restaurant industry, turn them into high tables surrounded by stools—perfect for a snack or aperitif. When properly cut, they also make for a great side table or nightstand.

The most unusual options, however, involve the bathroom, be it as an all-purpose container or as a linen cabinet. In both cases, the design takes full advantage of the barrel's spacious interior.

Others prefer to do away with the structure entirely and use the wooden staves to decorate the ceiling or walls of a room. It goes without saying that barrels also make for exceedingly ample flowerpots.

What with bottles, cases and barrels, wine can become a permanent fixture in our homes even after we've enjoyed drinking it.

That's definitely worth a toast!
