EVERY VINEYARD TELLS A STORY

Mas de la Rosa (DOQ Priorat) is more than a couple of hectares planted with eighty-year-old vines; it also tells dramatic tales of bygone passions—tales which in one way or another led to the wine we make today. When heeding the power of words and the annals of history, the choice of a name is often a given.
In his book Crónica de Porrera 1865, Josep Simó i Serres describes Mas de la Rosa as “a solid farmhouse located three-quarters of an hour from what is now the village (Porrera).” In the same document, the author refers to the origins of the farmhouse's name:

Rosa was the wife of a landowner who went mad in the mid-18th century and “set fire to the house, reducing it to ashes.” Unwittingly he thus ensured that his beloved's name would live on forever while his was gradually forgotten.
The reasons for his actions remain a mystery, but we do know the consequences. A poetic tale born amid the vineyards which deserves to be told, embraced by a wine which deserves to be savored. It was a journey ignited by passion, which culminated in a winery and a wine whose soul is steeped in emotions and a deep sense of humanity. The result is extraordinary.

The relationship between wine and letters is as old as the written word itself. They are inextricably intertwined. The written word seeks transcendence in wine, whereas wine needs words—a dialogue—to be understood and archived within ourselves. One nourishes the other, carried by a creative spirit, a muse embodied and concealed at the bottom of our glass.
If we understand poetry as a mirror of the soul, as a wise gaze, then it is worth noting that wine has been a source of inspiration and a poetic subject for centuries and remains so to this day. Poetry is that other dimension, orbiting our path as we design our lives in parallel, one ignoring the other...until she materializes. Let's call her inspiration...or Rosa.

Mas de la Rosa wears its history with the stoic soul that defines Priorat. Concealed within its depths is a certain femininity and the seductiveness of Mediterranean woodland treasures.
Classic or contemporary, unknown or widely acclaimed: poetry, the written word, draws on wine to satiate the soul. Sensibility, thought, and culture forged in the act of fermentation to make our lives a place to settle in and celebrate with Mas de la Rosa.
