Sunday, September 28th, leading figures from the world of fine dining will converge again in Barcelona for the second edition of theWine & Culinary International Forum, a biannual international conference on the harmonious interrelationship between wine and cuisine. Underthe theme "Creativity and Market"sommeliers, chefs and renowned journalists at the Spanish and international level will discuss and analyze in depth the complementary relationship between wine and cuisine, looking at the models of success of some of the world's most important international wine markets through workshops, show cooking and talks.
The event, sponsored by Dieta Mediterránea and Bodegas Torres, will be held at the Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona, and is aimed at professionals. The conference and its lineup was made possible by the invaluable support and knowledge of the forum's Advisory Committee, headed up by Víctor de la Serna and made up of François Chartier, Nick Lander and Josep Roca, with coordination by Montse Alonso and Juan Manuel Bellver. The event is held in connection with the 2014 International Year of the Mediterranean Diet (www.2014dietamediterranea.com).
The Speakers
The speakers at the conference, to be hosted by Juan Manuel Bellver and Joan Gómez Pallarès, will include:
Gérard Basset, currently the only person in the world to have held simultaneously the titles of Master of Wine, Master Sommelier, Wine MBA and Best Sommelier in the World, who will address psychology and training in his profession;Jeannie Cho Lee, reputed wine critic and the first Asian woman to hold the Master of Wine title, who will explain the strategy to successfully introduce French wine into the Chinese market;François Chartier(Canada), a pioneer in research on harmony between wine and cuisine, who will seek to demonstrate, together with chefsStéphane Modat(Canada),Vineet Bhatia(United Kingdom/India) andDaniel Ovadia(Mexico), the existence of certain components in various exotic cuisines that allow similar types of harmony;Josep Roca, from El Celler de Can Roca, who will deliver a talk on "When wine inspires the dish";Jamie Goode, the well-known British journalist and wine critic, will talk about minerality in wines;Lucas Payá, Wine Director at the José Andrés ThinkFoodGroup 2008-2014, will explain his experience selling wine in a novel way at the top restaurants in the United States; chefNando Jubany, the owner of Can Jubany, will exhibit local cuisine through his show cooking;Manuel Martínez, the chef and owner of the Parisian restaurant Le Relais Louis XIII, one of the great champions of classical French cuisine, will discuss the concept of cooking with wine in detail;Ferran Centelles, sommelier at El Bulli, 2000-2011, and a collaborator withwww.jancisrobinson.com, will lead a talk on "Enemies or new friends of wine"; whileDr. Ramón Estruchwill discuss the importance of wine in the Mediterranean diet.
There will also be ahistoric tasting of the great wines from the Primum Familiae Vini, an association comprising 11 of the world's most important wine-producing families:Mouton Rothschild, Miguel Torres, Vega Sicilia, Egon Müller Scharzhof, Symington, Pol Roger, Perrin, Joseph Drouhin, Tenuta San Guido, Hugel & Fils and Antinori.
This conference was made possible by the Mediterranean Diet Foundation, whose main objective is to promote and communicate lifestyle based on mankind's essential desire: health; and Bodegas Torres and its keen interest in supporting food that goes together with wine.
