Familia Torres hosts the operational group meeting of the REBO2VINO project

18 March 2024

On 12 and 13 May, at its winery in Penedès, Familia Torres hosted a face-to-face REBO2VINO technical coordination meeting, where the main advances of the second phase of the glass bottle reuse project were shared. Coordinated by the FEV (Federación Española del Vino), REBO2VINO aims to develop an analysis of the impact and feasibility of a system to reuse bottles in the Spanish wine sector, applying the principles of the circular economy.

During the working meeting, Familia Torres and González Byass, the only wineries that are part of the operational group, explained the progress made in the pilots carried out with the reusable bottle developed by Verallia, designed to maximise efficiency and minimise its carbon footprint, in restaurants in Catalonia and Jerez, respectively. For its part, Minsait presented the application under development, highlighting its ability to monitor the life cycle of the bottle and optimize the inventory management and internal logistics of wineries.

In addition, the attendees had the opportunity to visit the 'Maria Nutó' bottle washing facility in Sant Sadurní and culminate the meeting with lunch at one of the restaurants participating in the Familia Torres pilot, Can Laury in Sitges, where they were able to learn about the operation on reuse in the field of hospitality and consumer perception.

The REBO2VINO project (October 2022 - March 2025) involves 10 entities representing different parts in the wine value chain and the product's life cycle: Federación Española del Vino (FEV), Familia Torres, González Byass, Veralia Spain, Minsait (an Indra company), Artica Engineering and Innovation (artica+i), the UNESCO Chair in Life Cycle and Climate Change ESCI-UPF. The Association of Manufacturers and Distributors (AECOC), Ecovidrio and Hostelería de España also collaborate. REBO2VINO has a grant of €563,721.90 financed entirely by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (#FEADER) of the European Union, within the framework of the National Rural Development Programme 2014-2022, with funds from the European Recovery Instrument (EU Next Generation).
