Declared of national interest, the annual festival or 'Fiesta Mayor' of Vilafranca, from late August to early September, is one of the largest festivals in Catalonia. It starts on 29 August and does not end until 2 September, although its high point is on the 30th: the day of San Felix. The festival has kept the same essential structure since the 17th century, making it a living festival, by and for each and every one of us.
The economic resurgence of the county of Alt Penedès after the Phylloxera disaster encouraged the arrival of this artistic and social movement that emerged in Europe. Farm owners and merchants took on these Modernist trends and promoted buildings in line with their economic status.
